Employee falls to his death from 120 feet

A 49-year-old entomologist from Highland died in a tragic accident that occurred yesterday morning while he was in the middle of putting up bug traps, sheriff’s officials reported.

The man was headed down Conquistador Road near Sandia Creek Drive in the De Luz area when the accident took place 11:45 a.m. The man was on his way to plant traps in an avocado grove. 

The man was driving near the edge of the cliff and the vehicle fell over the side, reported sheriff’s Sgt. Mark Foster.

The case in under examination by Cal-OSHA, stated agency spokesman Dean Fryer.

According to Fryer, the man was attempting to make a turn in the ATV and place traps simultaneously when the vehicle rolled off the road and he was ejected. The man died after falling 120 feet. 

The man worked for S&S Grove Management Services, sheriff’s officials reported. The company was stationed in Escondido.

The man’s identity remains confidential.

Body discovered on side of freeway was not a victim of homicide

According to San Diego police detectives, the body that was discovered on the side of the freeway in Old Town on Sunday evening did not suffer a death due to homicide.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is still examining the reason behind the death, said detectives on Tuesday. Authorities decided to not release the name of the 43-year-old man until they contacted his family and informed them of the death. 

A person walking on Hancock Street noticed the body on the ground around 7:30 p.m. laying on the Interstate 5 right of way.

The body showed no evidence of trauma, but due to the circumstances the body was found under, homicide detectives came to the scene and took over the case.

Motorcyclist holds employee at gunpoint, demanding cash

A man entered a store on Wednesday night and pointed a gun at the head of an employee working the register demanding money, which he was given and then fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The robber approached the clerk, who was standing outside of the Payday Money Center located on North El Camino Real by Via Montoro, a little before 7:30 p.m., sheriff’s Sgt. Marcos Ramirez reported.

The man pointed the gun at her side, and demanded that she return inside and open the safe. 

The robber moved the gun to her head while she was bending down to get the money out the safe, Ramirez stated. He then told her to place the money in a black backpack.

According to witnesses, they said the man appeared to be around 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 185 pounds. His ethnicity was unknown. 

He was described wearing a black motorcycle helmet that he did not remove, a black leather jacket, black pants and black leather gloves. His motorcycle was a red and silver racing bike. 

The clerk was not hurt in the incident.

Chargers Jamal Williams admits to traffic violations

As of Thursday, Chargers defensive tackle Jamal Williams admitted to two charges of traffic violations following an agreement he made after his arrest on Feb. 1.

Williams, 32, was taken into custody under suspicions of driving under the influence of alcohol early Thursday morning on his down state Route 94 located to the east of downtown San Diego. The San Diego City Attorney’s office agreed that Williams was guilty of misdemeanor reckless driving after tests revealed that his blood-alcohol level was 0.07 percent, just falling below the state limit of 0.08.

According to the plea agreement Williams made, he agreed to admit to a lane-change violation and speeding. Williams is required to pay a fine and enroll in an eight-hour traffic safety class.

Second suspect arrested at the border for death of USC student

Agents at the border between U.S. and Mexico arrested another person on Friday suspected of being connected to the hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of a University of Southern California student and a second accident that took place in Los Angeles last month which left another severely injured, authorities stated. 

Officials took hold of Josue Luna, 32, around 5:30 p.m. while he was attempting to get into the United States at the entrance in Ysidro when agents checking his I.D. found that Los Angeles police had placed a search warrant looking for the man, Officer April Harding reported. 

Luna was taken to the Los Angeles jail under suspicion of involvement in the hit-and-run incident. He was let out of jail yesterday after matching a bail set at $50,000. 

According to police, Luna was a passenger in the car that hit and killed the USC student, Adrianna Bachan, 18, and left Marcus Garfinkle, 19, with critical injuries, while the two friends were crossing the street by their University on March 29.

Man charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving

Police took a man involved in tragic roll-over crash into custody yesterday under suspicions of driving under the influence after a passenger in his car wound up dead when the Toyota 4-Runner began tumbling, sheriff’s officials reported. 

The driver was headed east on West Vista Way by Santa Clara Drive around 11:30 p.m. Friday when he lost control of the car, said the Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle appeared to have flipped over and over multiple times until it came to rest on the opposite side of the freeway, blocking westbound lanes of state Route 78.

According to the county Medical Examiner’s office, the man riding in the front-seat was Lorenzo Gabriel Lopez-Gonzalez, 45, an Oceanside resident, who was fatally ejected from the vehicle and killed during the incident. The man managing the wheel Jesus Fernandez Alonzo, 26, was transported to a hospital after suffering minor injuries and was also taken to the Vista jail facing charges of vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving.

Driver in off-road accident found to be from Oregon

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man involved in a crash that took place off the road by Lake Henshaw on Friday as Scott Wolberton, 35, a Albany Ore. resident, who was killed in the incident. 

Wolverton was traveling on a private dirt road, known as Eagle Gap located just off Mesa Grande Road near state Route 76 when he lost control of the Polaris Ranger and the car took off down an embankment and he was ejected from the car. He was declared dead at the scene around 11:20 p.m.

Woman on motor scooter killed in two-car-accident

A tragic accident involving a 59-year-old woman on a motor scooter, who died when she was crushed in a two car accident occurred yesterday, reported Sheriff’s Department officials. 

The San Marcos woman was headed south on South Santa Fe Avenue by Mar Vista Drive when a sedan cut in front of her while completing a left turn. The incident took place around 2 p.m.

The woman, who remains unnamed, was severely injured and passed away at the hospital. No one has been arrested yet.

Woman hit in the head with pistol by attacker

A woman on her way to work in Linda Vista was hit in the head with a pistol by an attacker, but she successfully escaped from the man who took hold of her. 

She was headed down Eastman Street near Fulton Street around 6:15 a.m. when her attacker came up and held tightly onto her and then started to drag her across the ground, San Diego police report.

The woman retaliated and defended herself putting up a fight and then the man used a gun to smack her on the head. He was seen leaving the scene in a dark sedan. Police transported the woman to a hospital where doctor’s helped to alleviate her head injury.

Two men rob a KFC with T-shirts hiding their faces

Police were searching for two men responsible for robbing a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant located in Stockton, when they hid their faces and entered the restaurant armed with a handgun.

Police received a call around 9:12 p.m. from the restaurant found at Market Street by 32nd Street,  San Diego police Sgt. David Jennings reported. 

According to witness reports, the two men were seen wearing T-shirts over their heads in order to hide their face and baseball hats on top. One demanded that customers and employees drop to the ground and the other insisted on being given the money from the cash register. The employee at the register handed the men an unknown amount of money and then the two men fled. 

There were no reports of injury of arrests in the incident. Police did not give a specific description of the two men.
