Fight outside bar in Chula Vista turns into shooting
Police took a 27-year-old man into custody after he was charged for shooting a firearm during a brawl outside a bar and also in a nearby neighborhood early Tuesday.
Jose Sanchez was hanging out with two groups at a bar in Chula Vista and was kicked out for getting into a disagreement around 2 a.m., Lt. Daniel Hardman reported.
The disagreement then escalated into a fight when the group was kicked outside the bar, located by Broadway and Davidson Street, and Sanchez walked to his car and pulled out a gun and then began to shoot, Hardman stated.
The group broke apart, among them was Sanchez, of Chula Vista. Officers searched the scene and discovered the casing of a .45-caliber by the bar.
Police then received a call informing them of gunshots going off by the intersection of McIntosh Street and Broadway, the lieutenant reported. There they also found some more .45-caliber rounds laying in the street.
One officer who was wandering around the scene some time after the incident, saw Sanchez leaving the area around 3 a.m., and arrested him without a problem, Hardman said.
After he was arrested, Sanchez told police officers that he was responsible for shooting at both locations, the lieutenant reported.
He was booked into jail under suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and multiple firearm charges, Hardman stated.
