Agents find pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine in man’s car
A 53-year-old man was taken into custody after he tried to sneak cocaine and methamphetamine worth an estimated $66,000 on the streets through a Border Patrol checkpoint, officials reported Monday.
The man, who is a citizen of Mexico, pulled up to the checkpoint driving a Buick LeSabre around 2:45 p.m. on Friday. According to agents, the man looked uneasy and uncomfortable and continued to change his answers when he was questioned.
Both the driver and the car were turned over to officials for further speculation and to undergo a second examination. While carrying out the check, agents saw that the carpet, floor molding and rocker panels of the car looked strange, officials reported.
Authorities noticed an opening in the side panel and looked to find a package holding 1.45 pounds of cocaine.
Officials reported finding two other plastic containers holding 2.35 pounds of methamphetamine stashed in the side panel of the car.
The man had the correct passport and paperwork to travel throughout the U.S. in accordance with the law but was taken into custody and handed over to agents in the anti-drug task force department.
