Wife pleas not guilty in shooting husband

A woman said she was not responsible for the shooting of her husband, who worked as a television news director in San Diego, during a debate that took place at her home in La Mesa.

Kalisa Wells placed her not guilty pleas in the El Cajon Superior Court on Monday stating she was not guilty of corporal injury to her husband and assault with a deadly weapon. According to a prosecutor, both accusations she is facing assume that she used a gun in the attack on her husband.

Officers looking into the situation were called on May 29 and were told there were gunshots. When they arrived at the scene they saw 55-year-old Donald Wells Jr. with a gunshot wound in the hip.

Authorities report a revolver was spotted laying on the kitchen counter and the wife gave in to officials, allowing them to take her away and take over the situation at hand.

Donald Wells was an employee at KGTV Channel 10 and worked as the news director.  He was let go from the hospital’s care on June 2.

Kalisa Wells could possible be sentenced to serve 14 years in jail if she is found guilty for both charges.
