A woman around the age of 20 fell from a cliff on Sunday located behind a home on the bluff where she was temporarily staying. She dropped to the ground from about 80 to 100 feet up high resulting in severe injuries and placing her in critical condition, authorities report.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was severely injured on her back and head after she fell from the cliff at the home located on Neptune Avenue near Roseta Street a little after 11 p.m., Encinitas Marine Safety Capt. Larry Giles stated.

She fell off the cliff and landed on the beach, just about a  half-mile north of Moonlight Beach.

The woman had just left a jacuzzi and was headed over to a hammock in the back yard, but walked a little too far past the hammock and missed her step, Giles reported. “She was on the side of the cliff and ended up going over the side,” he said.

Giles believes the woman was intoxicated.

She was airlifted by helicopter and transported to a La Jolla hospital. She was not able to move and did not have feeling in the bottom half of her body when rescuers checked.
