Marines go on trial for suspected murder of fellow marine

A group of investigators looked through the living quarters of four Camp Pendleton Marines who were thought to have been responsible for the murder of a fellow Marine and his wife in October. During the inspection, authorities came across wedding rings that belonged to the couple, along with their watches and clothes, homicide detectives reported Tuesday.

The testimony was given at the second part of the preliminary hearing for Kevin Cox, Emrys John, Tyrone Miller and Kesaun Sykes at the Riverside County Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.

The men are facing charges of torture and shooting in the murder of  Sgt. Jan Pietrzak and Quiana Jenkins-Pietrzak on Oct. 15 in their Winchester home. Prosecutors are arguing for the men to receive the death penalty.

Pietrzak was acquainted with the men through their military connection at Camp Pendleton. Marine officials have driven out Cox, John, Miller and Sykes from the military ever since the incident.

The case has triggered much conversation about whether the murder had to do with race or not. Pietrzak was a white man and his wife was black, there is evidence in the home that the murderers spray-painted racial slurs on the walls inside.

Superior Court Judge Judith Clark scheduled the second hearing for August 6, at that time the  set the next hearing date for Aug. 6, when the claims of innocence from Miller, Cox and Sykes are supposed to be given.
