Two men and a 16-year-old boy were taken into custody by officials yesterday after they were thought to be responsible for nabbing a woman’s purse and then robbing a jewelry store in National City taking away $15,000 worth of jewelry.

The men, ages 18 and 19, were held in jail around 5:30 p.m. by San Diego police after they slammed a BMW sedan into a fence located on Alleghany Street at Calle Tortuosa, an estimated two miles east of the jewelry store, and fled from the scene afterwards, reported National City police Sgt. J. Etzler.

The 16-year-old boy was taken into custody a little after once officials found him driving another car after stealing the purse around 4:45 p.m. and the burglary of Renee’s Jewelry at 5 p.m., Etzler stated. Both incidents were called in from East Plaza Boulevard, in the middle of Palm Avenue and Harbison Avenue.

Police report that victims confirmed that the men arrested were the ones who had robbed the jewelry store and stole the woman’s purse, Etzler stated.
