Surfer saved from sea but does not survive
A surfer out late into the night had to be saved by San Diego lifeguards but did not survive when he passed away at a hospital last night.
The 50-year-old man from La Jolla, experienced serious medical trauma while out in the ocean, authorities reported. A hospital spokeswoman informed officials that the surfer was William J. Ryan.
Ryan was found by other surfers in the area with his face down in the water and not responding on his board in the water around 5:50 p.m. close to Tourmaline Surfing Park in Pacific Beach, lifeguard Lt. Andy Lerum reported. They signaled towards the shore in order to get assistance.
Lifeguards paddled out to sea and pulled the man in to shore, who was not breathing or responding. They used CPR and a defibrillator to try and revive the man until the paramedics showed up and transported him to a hospital in La Jolla.
A county Medical Examiner’s Office investigator announced that Ryan had passed away at the hospital.
