Police are giving a reward of up to $1,000 for any tips that help them in finding and arrested the thief responsible for stealing eight cars that were sitting out front of apartment complexes on Thursday night close to the Amaya Drive trolley station, police reported.

The thefts, the first called in at 5 a.m. Friday, took place either Thursday night or early Friday morning, reported La Mesa police Lt. Dan Willis. The thief took everything from purses, to iPods and a GPS unit, which was mostly visible from the outside of the car, he added.

In seven cases, the car windows were bashed in. How the the thief entered one car is still unknown.

The cars were parked outside apartment complexes located by Amaya Drive and Fletcher Parkway and Campina Drive near Amaya Court.
