Culprit in multiple car robberies arrested

Police took a man into custody for car theft who was said to have taken multiple possessions from a car on Monday morning and was possibly the culprit in several other thefts and robberies in the North County area.

A man living on Hastings Drive by Thymes Way was on his way to his car around 6 a.m. when he saw a man stealing his possessions from his car, Carlsbad police reported. The man took out a knife and threatened the resident with it before he took off, police stated.

A Carlsbad motorcycle officer saw a man driving who matched the description of the thief and pulled the car over, and the resident confirmed that the driver was the man who stole items from his car, police stated.

Officers searched the man’s car and discovered the stolen items taken in the recent theft and also other robberies in the area. The 23-year-old man was sent and held in the county jail on robbery charges, possession of stolen property and petty theft.

Bank fof America robbed in Solana Beach

A man wearing a ski mask over his face carried out a bank robbery in North County on Tuesday.

The robber entered the Bank of America located on South Highway 101 near Dahlia Drive just following 5:30 p.m. and ordered the teller to place all the large bills into a brown paper bag that he provided, reported sheriff’s Sgt. William Dreyer.

The thief was said to be dressed in a dark hooded sweat shirt, blue gloves, dark pants and light colored tennis shoes.  No further information regarding his appearance was provided.

Bicyclist hit by officer on motorcycle

A police officer riding a motorcycle hit a bicyclist Tuesday in Hillcrest around noon, which caused the biker to be sent to the hospital with small injuries, authorities reported.

The motorcycle and bike accident was called in from University Avenue between Tenth Avenue and Vermont Street around 2:40 p.m., stated San Diego police spokesman Gary Hassen. The police official said that he was hurting and had visible injuries. Hassen added that he was unsure if the officer was transported to the hospital or not.

The cyclist was minorly hurt and taken to the hospital for aide, Hassen reported. No more information regarding the accident was given right away.

Previous radio host suspected of drunk driving

Former radio and television news anchor Allison Ross was arrested early Sunday on suspicion of drunken driving.

Ross, 55, was arrested and held in the Las Colinas jail around 5:30 a.m. and was kept there with a bail set at $2.500 bail, the Sheriff’s Department’s Web site read.

She is supposed to be on trial for misdemeanor driving under the influence charges on Wednesday afternoon.

Ross worked as an anchor for KFMB TV Channel 8 from the years 1978 to 1989. In the 90s, she did reports of traffic for a few local stations and also showed up on KNSD channel 7/39, a show that didn’t last long, in which she was debuted with the previous mayor and radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock. Following which she talked on KOGO AM radio as a morning news anchor before she was one of the employees who lost their job in November 2001.

Car smashes into laundromat window

A serious auto accident occurred in the Imperial Beach are when a vehicle smashed into the window of a laundromat Monday afternoon. The crash took place at about 1:30 p.m. on the 100 block of Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

No one was hurt in the accident but there was pieces of glass all over the ground. A tow truck arrived and took away the car.

Family’s house catches fire, garage destroyed

A house fire ruined a garage at a home located on 45th Street near Boylston Street in the Chollas View neighborhood Monday night, a San Diego fire dispatcher reported.

The fire was called in around 10:30 p.m. and it was said that no one was injured, but the Red Cross arrived at the location despite claims and assisted two adults and a child who live at the home, the dispatcher stated.

The source of the fire is not yet known and the total cost of the wreck was not given right away.

Young robber holds up Chase bank

A robber who is thought to possibly be only about 15-years-old stole from a bank in Carmel Valley on Monday afternoon.

The thief entered the Chase Bank located on Valley Centre Drive near Carmel Creek Road a little before 5 p.m., reported San Diego officials.

He informed the workers he was armed with a handgun and ordered to be given cash from a teller, police added.

According to witnesses, he was Caucasian, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and around 140 pounds dressed in a black hooded sweat shirt, black gloves and black pants, police stated. He was last spotted leaving in a tan colored car that resembled a Toyota Corolla.

Car reverses into hydrant and causes flood

A hydrant burst and spewed a large amount of water thus creating a river of mud that spread into a Sabre Springs business Monday night.

A car reversed into the hydrant, which was placed on a hill on Wexford Steet behind Dye Precision on Scripps Summit Court near Scripps Summit Drive, around 11:30 p.m., a dispatcher with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported.

The incident caused a huge rush of water to spray into the air about 50 feet high and for a continuous period of 30 minutes, which soaked the hillside and also caused the business to flood with about several inches of water and gunk that traveled down the hill, reported business owner Dave Dehaan to KGTV Channel 10.

Dehaan added that he estimates the whole day will be spent cleaning the mess. He said the damage is to cost about $100,000.

Homeless man burned badly

A 29-year-old homeless man seems to have set fire to a 49-year-old homeless man on Wednesday afternoon, Chula Vista police reported.

The victim received second- and third-degree burns covering about a fourth of his body, reported police Lt. Phil Collum said. It was not explicitly stated what provoked the crime that occurred just before 4 p.m. by a  grocery store located on 30th Street west of Edgemere Avenue.

Collum reported that the victim seems to have been sleeping or passed out when he caught fire. He was transported to UCSD Medical Center for treatment.

A suspect was taken into custody.

“It’s very unusual,” Collum stated. “I can remember very few (similar) incidents in my career of 15 years.”

Woman strikes pedestrian while illegally crossing street

A 49-year-old man was struck by an SUV Wednesday evening and was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido with critical injuries, the CHP reported.

The accident took place around 5:40 p.m. on South Santa Fe Avenue near the city line between Vista and San Marcos.

A 37-year-old San Marcos woman was traveling south on Santa Fe Avenue in a Chevrolet Trailblazer at a speed of 40 mph when she noticed the man crossing the street in the intersection of  Palmyra Drive, reported CHP Sgt. Matt Boothe. He reported that the man was walking across the street at the wrong time.

The SUV driver tried to miss the pedestrian by jerking around him, but was unsuccessful, Boothe stated. The man was severely injured with deep wounds. CHP officials were unsure about where he lived.

No one was taken into custody, and Boothe added that the driver was not speeding or drinking and driving.
