Car reverses into hydrant and causes flood

A hydrant burst and spewed a large amount of water thus creating a river of mud that spread into a Sabre Springs business Monday night.

A car reversed into the hydrant, which was placed on a hill on Wexford Steet behind Dye Precision on Scripps Summit Court near Scripps Summit Drive, around 11:30 p.m., a dispatcher with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported.

The incident caused a huge rush of water to spray into the air about 50 feet high and for a continuous period of 30 minutes, which soaked the hillside and also caused the business to flood with about several inches of water and gunk that traveled down the hill, reported business owner Dave Dehaan to KGTV Channel 10.

Dehaan added that he estimates the whole day will be spent cleaning the mess. He said the damage is to cost about $100,000.
