Women not permitted to serve on Navy subs

Posted by Christina on Apr 30 2010 | Laws

According to Navy officials, women will not officials working on San Diego-based submarines any time in the near future.

The six subs based in the San Diego Bay at Naval Base Point Loma are the Navy’s smaller, rapid-attack Los Angeles-class vessels, with limited room.

The Navy reports that there is enough room for women to have separate living areas and bathrooms on the bigger sized subs, which are the ballistic missile and guided missile variants based in Washington state and Georgia.

Secretary of Defense, Rober Gates, informed lawmakers in February that the Navy would be removing the law not allowing women to serve on subs unless Congress opposed it. Navy spokesman Lt.
