Man held at border in connection to 1997 murder
A man from Santa Ana wanted for a 1997 murder in Texas was taken into custody Thursday night while he he crossing the Mexican border to enter the United States, authorities report.
Juan Castelan Michaca, 44, is a legal immigrant from Mexico living in the U.S. and was held at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry around 8:30 p.m. He was riding in a Chevrolet Suburban as a passenger, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials reported. Customs officers looking over his permanent-resident documents noticed the felony warrant issued for him.
He was transported to County Jail and was held there till he was to be sent to Harris County, Texas. Details and more information regarding the slaying were not available.
