Man charged with Animal Cruelty in dog’s death
A puppy passed away from wounds inflicted by its owner when the owner strangled the dog.
Coco, a 10-week-old chocolate Labrador retriever, went into cardiac arrest early Friday morning and could not could not be revived, the county Department of Animal Services reported.
The owner of the dog, David Hale Warner, 50, of La Jolla, transported Coco to an emergency veterinary clinic early Wednesday morning, saying that he had held the animal on the ground and strangled it for 20 seconds to train the puppy after he had bit his girlfriend on the nose.
The dog was unable to walk, had trouble breathing, had red-colored saliva and its gums were blue, department spokesman stated.
Warner is set to stand trial on felony charges of animal cruelty in San Diego County Superior Court this afternoon. He could potentially be put in jail and find for up to $20,000.
