Shop manager interrupts burglary

Posted by Christina on Dec 08 2009 | attempted robbery

The manager of a sandwich shop stopped a burglary in the making Monday morning, frightening off the potential robber before he was able to steal anything.

The employee walked inside the Subway located on Del Lago Boulevard at Via Rancho Parkway around 5:30 a.m. and spotted the man inside the store, Escondido police Sgt. Ryan Fien stated.

It seems the man walked inside the store after tearing off some panels located on the side of the roof and he was using a filing tool to break open the store’s safe, Fien reported.

The robber had also detached the store’s alarm system, the sergeant stated.

The man took off running out the back door when the manager walked in.

The employee said the man was white, around 6 feet tall, wearing a khaki colored fishing or hunting brand of hat.

Police looked around the store with a dog but the man was not located.

Posted by Christina on May 31 2009 | attempted robbery

A woman around the age of 30, successfully defended herself and her purse when two men attempted to take it from her yesterday in the parking lot of a supermarket, police reported.

The woman pulled into the lot at Ralphs located on North Second Street near Madison Avenue around 7 p.m. She parked her car and was walking away to enter the store when two men approached her and tried to snag her purse.

The force of their pull knocked the woman to the ground, but she was able to hold on to her purse until the men decided to let go and fled, El Cajon police Lt. Ron Smithson reported. The woman was not injured in the incident.

Witnesses began to walk to the woman to help her out. They led police officials around the corner of some shops where the men were just about to leave in a red Nissan Altima. One of the men tried to run away but didn’t get far until police got a hold of him. The other man took off in the car.

According to Smithson, a 19-year-old man of Alpine was taken into custody under suspicion of attempted robbery. Police were still searching for the other man involved last night.
