Lawsuits filed for suspected business scam

State authorities filed lawsuits against eight individuals and six companies yesterday after they were charged for performing scams directed at small-business owners.

The lawsuits were filed yesterday in the San Diego Superior Court, and are suing for over $3 million, a news release from state Attorney General Jerry Brown reported.

In each lawsuit, the defendants are being charged for breaking state law by mailing “official-looking” papers  to small-business owners, which falsely informed them that they were at risk for losing their corporate or limited-liability status if they didn’t pay a fee by a specific date.

The fees were priced from $150 to $239. In two of the three instances, the defendants gave “generic” and “fictitious” corporate minutes if they received annual fees from the companies, the lawsuits claimed.

The businesses noted in the documents are the Compliance Annual Minutes Board, Corporate Filings Division, Corporate Compliance Filings Inc., Annual Review Board Inc., Business Filings Division and Corpfilers.com LLC.
