“Reforest California” campaign raises $600,000 to go forth with plan
The new campaign called “Reforest California” has raised the funds of about $600,000 to plant over 1 million trees native to the region at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, just east of San Diego, and Chino Hills State Park, and northwest of Corona.
The project was sponsored and was a pact between California State Parks, Stater Bros. Supermarkets and the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Southern California. The profits and success was announced Thursday.
“Wildfire has significantly impacted our natural resources in recent years, but the ‘Reforest California’ campaign – the largest reforestation project to date at state parks – will help replant damaged parklands and restore forest areas to healthy levels,” Mike Chrisman, the state’s secretary of natural resources, stated.
The campaign was supported and paid for by consumer and employee donations at Stater Bros. stores, and also with the help of Coca-Cola making donations based on how much of their products were sold at those supermarkets.
Part of the funds will go towards the placement of fire-prevention signs at Cuyamaca Rancho and other state parks.
