Controlled burns to be conducted at base again
Officials want to warn those around the MIramar Marine Corps Air Station to not be alarmed by the smoke coming from that way as fire officials are planning to finish carrying out their controlled burns on the base today.
The burns started yesterday and will continue again at 10 a.m. today.
The base’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting unit will also be carrying out fire training starting at about 8 a.m. until noon, and it is possible that flames will be seen from Interstate 15 and state Route 52.
The burns are part of the base’s vegetation-management program that seeks to lower the possibility of a huge wildfire occurring.
