Man on death row for 1995 murder passes away
A man from San Diego County on death row for killing his ex-wife’s new husband in 1995 passed away on Friday of natural causes at a hospital in Northern California, state prison authorities reported.
Lawrence Edward Bergman, 60, was being held in the San Quentin State Prison ever since he was found guilty in 1997 and sentenced to serve life in prison for his role in the death of Edwin Stark.
No more information regarding the cause of death was given yesterday.
As stated in a court testimony, Bergman and his son, Edward Bergman, were stealing from his ex-wife’s house located in Lemon Grove on Jan. 17, 1995, when Stark returned home.
The two stabbed, strangled and used a thick stick to beat Stark to death and then left his body in the Cleveland National Forest just north of Loveland Reservoir. It was discovered left in a found in a grave of little depth and covered in a comforter three days after the attack.
The son received life in prison without parole.
