Domestic dispute starts fire in apartment building
Three families were left without a home yesterday after flames took over a two-story apartment building in City Heights that was stated by a domestic disagreement, authorities reported.
San Diego police Lt. Ken Hubbs reported that officers arrived at the scene at 4:43 p.m. after receiving a report regarding a domestic disturbance between a man and woman at the complex located on 44th Street near El Cajon Boulevard.
When officers came to the scene, they could hear the man and woman shouting at each other and also items being thrown within the apartment. During the time the officers were waiting for more officers, the fire was started in the building.
At first, the man denied the police request to come out of the apartment, even though the building was entirely covered in smoke. He eventually came out and was taken into custody. The woman was not hurt in the incident.
Authorities were looking into the case further and examining what started the fire, which destroyed three apartments altogether. The American Red Cross was providing the families with shelter for a short while.
