The checkpoint took place at Grand Avenue near Noyes street in front of Mission Bay High School around 9 p.m. and lasted until 2:30 a.m., stated Officer Mark McCullough.

Officers stopped 1,126 drivers and held 40 for testing for driving while intoxicated, McCullough reported.

Officers also cited two people for driving with a suspended license and two other for having marijuana, McCullough added.

Workers belonging to the Public Utilities Commission assisted at the site to search  “party buses” and limousines.

They searched 12 vehicles, gave out seven written violations and impounded one bus because the driver did not have a legal license, McCollough stated. The PUC exists to check and oversee commercial vehicles.

McCullough declared the checkpoint successful and added that officers are attempting to inform people about the risk and danger involved in drinking and driving. Officers are particularly worried about the approaching high school prom season and the accidents that come along with that.
