Young boy killed in hit-and-run
A judge demanded that an 18-year-old man is to be put on trial for a hit-and-run accident which occurred on July 9. The hit-and-run accident in Encanto resulted in the death of a young boy.
Samuel Metu faces a charge for driving over the boy, Jameson Darapheth, in the middle of Madrone Avenue near Woodman Street. The child had ran out into the middle of the street where he was hit by the car with Metu in the driver’s seat.
Metu was driving behind his mother down the street, and and after he struck the boy he just kept on driving without pulling over. He stopped at a gas station in the area. He stayed at the gas station and then decided to regress back to the location and worked alongside police, as stated in his testimony at a preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court.
Metu’s lawyer, Jeremiah Sullivan, reported in the middle of the hearing that the defendant was distracted and took his eyes off the road for a moment to look at another child when the young boy ran into the road.
Sullivan requested that the Judge John Einhorn minimize the charges down to a misdemeanor, stating that the boy’s death was solely an unintentional accident. The judge denied the request but was in agreement with the portion that Metu did not mean to hurt the boy.
